Masters Academy International Appoints Championship Coach Abbey Capobianco to Lead Women’s Lacrosse Program

Championship-winning coach brings decade of collegiate and professional experience to groundbreaking academy

STOW, MA. – Masters Academy International (MAI) today announced Abbey Capobianco as Head Coach of Women’s Lacrosse, marking a major step forward in the academy’s growing athletics program. Capobianco, who led Assumption University to national prominence and coached the Boston Storm to the league finals, will build MAI’s women’s lacrosse program from its foundation when the academy opens in September 2026.

“Abbey represents exactly the kind of leadership and vision we’re seeking at Masters Academy International,” said Peter Masters, Co-Founder and Director of Athletics at MAI. “Her proven track record of developing student-athletes both on and off the field, combined with her innovative approach to the sport, makes her the ideal architect for our women’s lacrosse program.”

Capobianco brings exceptional credentials to MAI, including a decade as head coach at Assumption University, where she compiled 84 wins and was named 2019 National Coach of the Year by the New England Lacrosse Journal. Under her leadership, Assumption achieved a #3 national ranking and produced the program’s first-ever All-American. Throughout her collegiate coaching career, her teams earned IWLCA All-Academic Team honors every season, maintaining a team GPA above 3.0.

Over the past decade, Capobianco has placed more than 300 student-athletes at top collegiate programs across all three NCAA divisions. This past September alone, as current Director and Recruiting Coordinator of Boston Laxachusetts – a position she’s held since the organization’s inception – she placed 18 student-athletes at top academic and athletic institutions, including Stanford, Middlebury, Colby, Northwestern, Penn, Tufts, and USC.

“To build the women’s lacrosse program at Masters Academy is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” said Capobianco. “MAI is special because it’s the first of its kind to provide that true balance between academics and athletics, allowing student-athletes to excel in both areas without having to sacrifice one. We’re going to build something extraordinary here.”

The women’s lacrosse program at MAI will feature state-of-the-art training facilities, cutting-edge video analysis technology, and a highly competitive spring season including regional and national tournament play. The program will serve students in grades 6-12 & post-graduates, with pathways designed for athletes at every level, from those new to the sport to elite players pursuing collegiate recruitment.

“Women’s lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in America, and the opportunities at the collegiate level continue to expand,” Capobianco noted. “With the support system and resources at MAI, we’ll help our student-athletes dream big without restrictions.”

Capobianco’s coaching philosophy, inspired by Pete Carroll’s “Always Compete” mantra, emphasizes building an environment where players feel confident to challenge themselves while maintaining a team-first mentality. Her approach has consistently produced not just wins, but well-rounded individuals who succeed beyond the field. With 20 years of experience at the collegiate and club level, she brings unparalleled expertise to MAI’s program.
