Masters Academy International Names Jason Smith as Head Basketball Coach

Veteran Brewster Academy coach with 700+ career wins, seven national championships and dozens of NBA and Division I alumni joins MAI

STOW, Mass. – March 17, 2026 – Masters Academy International (MAI) announced that Jason Smith, one of the most accomplished prep school basketball coaches in the country, will join the school as Head Basketball Coach.

Smith arrives at MAI after 26 seasons leading Brewster Academy, where he built one of the most dominant prep basketball programs in the nation. Under his leadership, Brewster captured seven National Prep Championships (2010, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2020), along with seven New England Prep Tournament Championships and ten New England Prep regular-season titles.

Over the course of his career, Smith has amassed more than 700 victories while developing some of the top basketball talent in the country. His program has produced 25 NBA players and more than 200 NCAA Division I players, while dozens more have gone on to play professionally in the NBA G League and leagues around the world.

During the 2024–25 season, Brewster finished 28–5 and ranked No. 3 nationally in the ESPN Top 25, while capturing a share of the Nike EYBL Scholastic Regular Season Championship, widely considered the most prestigious high school basketball league in the United States.

Smith’s success has earned widespread recognition across the sport. He is a three-time National Prep Coach of the Year, six-time New England Prep Coach of the Year, and a Jersey Mike’s Naismith National High School Coach of the Year finalist. He has also been named among the Top 100 Most Impactful People in Men’s College Basketball by Silver Waves Media five times. Recently, Stadium Talk recognized Smith as the Greatest High School Basketball Coach in New Hampshire History.

“Jason Smith has built one of the most respected basketball programs in the country,” said Peter Masters, Co-Founder of Masters Academy International. “Seven national championships, more than 700 wins and the development of dozens of NBA players are a testament to the hard work and dedication he brings every day. More importantly, Jason has consistently prepared young men to succeed both on the court and beyond it, which makes him a perfect fit for what we are building at Masters Academy.”

Smith said the vision behind MAI immediately resonated with him.

“Masters Academy is creating something truly unique in the world of student-athlete development,” said Smith. “The commitment to building a culture that brings together academics, well-being, basketball development and elite competition is unlike anything seen in this country. At MAI, our administration, faculty and basketball staff will work collaboratively to provide every athlete the opportunity to grow, compete and reach their maximum potential.”

Throughout his tenure at Brewster, Smith’s teams averaged more than 30 wins per season over two decades, while the program advanced to the National Prep Final Four eleven times since 2008. His teams also recorded thirteen 30-win seasons, including 2025-26, cementing Brewster’s reputation as one of the premier prep basketball programs in the United States.
