Masters Academy International Appoint Coach Ryan Hurd
Former Brewster Academy Assistant and Notre Dame Prep Head Coach Brings More Than Two Decades of Experience Developing Elite Student-Athletes
STOW, Mass. — May 6, 2026 — Masters Academy International (MAI) today announced the addition of Ryan Hurd as Assistant Coach for Boys Basketball, where he will reunite with several former Brewster Academy coaches, including Head Coach Jason Smith, Josh Lee and Naadir Tharpe, as MAI continues assembling one of the most experienced prep basketball staffs in the country.
Hurd joins MAI following a six-year stint as an assistant coach at Brewster Academy, one of the nation’s premier prep basketball programs. Prior to Brewster, Hurd spent more than a decade as head coach at Notre Dame Prep, where he coached seven future NBA players and more than 80 NCAA Division I student-athletes while leading the program to seven National Prep Championship Elite Eight appearances.
His coaching background also includes NCAA Division I experience as an assistant coach at Dartmouth College and Director of Basketball Operations at the University of New Hampshire, a role he earned while still an undergraduate student.
“Ryan is an outstanding addition to our basketball program and our broader school community,” said Peter Masters, Co-Founder of Masters Academy International. “He’s coached at the highest levels of prep and college basketball, but more importantly, he understands how to develop young athletes and create a culture centered around accountability, consistency and growth. Ryan’s experience and authenticity make him an ideal fit for what we are building at MAI.”
Hurd was selected by NextUpRecruits.com as the 2015 Northeast Prep Coach of the Year and was also chosen to coach in the prestigious Kentucky Derby Festival All-American Game. During his tenure at Notre Dame Prep, nine former players earned Division I conference All-Rookie Team honors.
Known for his player-first approach and emphasis on personal development, Hurd says he is energized by the opportunity to help shape a new model for elite student-athletes at Masters Academy International.
“I have been around long enough to recognize what a unique situation this is to be able to coach at an institution so focused on giving student-athletes the resources required to be great on and off the court,” said Hurd. “I feel incredibly fortunate to have been offered the opportunity to continue coaching with guys that I consider dear friends at a place like MAI.”
Hurd added: “I love the process of winning and showing players that success begins long before you ever play a game. Helping young men understand that individual recognition takes care of itself when you are willing to put the greater good of the team first is something I take a great deal of pride in.”
A native of Concord, New Hampshire, Hurd grew up the youngest in a family of 10 children. He joins a nationally accomplished basketball leadership group at Masters Academy, led by Director of Basketball John Carroll and Head Coach Jason Smith.
