Former Suffolk University Coach Joins MAI’s All-Star Baseball Coaching Staff

STOW, Mass. — May 22, 2026 — Masters Academy International announced today that Adam Johnson has joined the school as Assistant Baseball Coach.

Johnson brings a strong background in collegiate player development and recruiting to MAI after serving as Assistant Baseball Coach at Suffolk University from 2022 through 2025. During his tenure, Johnson directed practice plans for position players, served as the team’s hitting coach and first base coach, and assisted with recruiting and travel coordination.

In 2024, Johnson helped guide Suffolk to one of the strongest offensive seasons in program history as the team posted a 26-17 record and emerged as one of the top offenses in the Conference of New England. Suffolk led the conference in triples while finishing among the league leaders in doubles, slugging percentage, hits, home runs and runs per game.

Johnson also played a key role in the development of several standout players, including four All-Region selections and one ABCA/Rawlings All-American while two have gone on to sign professional baseball contracts.

“Adam is an outstanding young coach who brings tremendous energy, baseball IQ and passion for player development to our program,” said Rich Gilbride, Director of Baseball at MAI. “He understands how to build relationships with student-athletes while also challenging them to compete at a high level every single day. His experience at the collegiate level and commitment to developing complete players make him a tremendous addition to our staff.”

In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Johnson currently serves as Head Coach for Expos Baseball, one of New England’s premier travel baseball programs. In that role, he oversees player development while helping student-athletes navigate the college recruiting process.

A former infielder at Suffolk University, Johnson helped lead the program to a 2014 ECAC Championship and a 2015 GNAC Championship, earning All-Tournament Team honors during his collegiate career.

“The opportunity to help build and be part of a program that promotes hard work and a team-first culture is something that really stood out to me about MAI,” said Johnson. “This is an environment that’s committed to helping student-athletes maximize their potential both on and off the field, and I’m excited to contribute to that mission every day.”

Johnson said his coaching philosophy centers around accountability, communication and preparing student-athletes to compete with consistency and professionalism.

“I expect our players to compete with maximum effort every day and prepare with purpose,” Johnson said. “When student-athletes commit fully to their preparation and trust the process, the game slows down and confidence grows. I want our players pushing each other, communicating constantly and working together toward shared goals.”

Originally from Georgetown, Massachusetts, Johnson currently resides in Amesbury with his wife, Grace, their two-year-old son, Jack, and their Labrador retriever, Charlie.
