Masters Academy International Names U.S. Figure Skating’s Mark Mitchell and Peter Johannson Senior Advisors to Figure Skating Program
Experienced Olympic and international coaches to help shape MAI’s elite student-athletes on and off the ice
STOW, Mass. – February 24, 2026 – Masters Academy International (MAI) announced the addition of nationally recognized high-performance coaches Mark Mitchell and Peter Johansson as Senior Advisors and collaborators within its elite figure skating program. The move signals a bold step toward building an Olympic-caliber development model right in the heart of Massachusetts.
Widely considered one of the most competitive sports globally, MAI is assembling a figure skating coaching structure that provides its athletes with unparalleled access to instruction from coaches who have competitive experience on the world stage.
At the center of MAI’s Figure Skating program is former U.S. Figure Skating Team Leader and ISU-certified international judge Wendy Enzmann, responsible for leading the development of student-athletes not only for national competition but also for international success.
“In elite sport, athlete development rarely exceeds the quality of its coaching,” said Enzmann,” “Our goal is to create an environment where skaters have access to world-class technical expertise, structured academic support, and the kind of high-performance culture typically found only at the very top levels of the sport.”
Mitchell and Johansson both bring a distinguished legacy as both competitors and coaches.
Mark Mitchell is a three-time U.S. National medalist and a two-time World Championship finalist, including a fourth-place finish at the 1993 World Championships, where he earned a perfect 6.0 for presentation.
Peter Johansson is a four-time Swedish National Champion who represented Sweden at the 1988 Winter Olympics and both the European and World Championships.
Following their competitive careers, the pair became one of the most respected coaching teams, developing regional, sectional, national, and international champions, including World Junior medalists and elite U.S. competitors.
Mitchell and Johansson have had a recognizable impact on the sport of Figure Skating. Both are recipients of multiple U.S. Figure Skating and Professional Skaters Association Coach of the Year honors, as well as a U.S. Olympic Committee Developmental Coach of the Year award.
In their advisory role, Mitchell and Johansson will focus on developing MAI’s skaters to the same level of technical precision, longevity, and international competitiveness their athletes are known for.
Their collaboration with MAI reflects growing interest in more centralized, structured models for youth skating development, particularly as the sport prepares for the 2030 Winter Olympic cycle.
“Masters Academy is truly honored to welcome Mark Mitchell and Peter Johansson to our program,” said Enzmann. “Their presence reinforces MAI’s commitment to excellence, innovation, and providing our skaters with the resources, structure, and mentorship necessary to succeed not only nationally but on the world stage.”
Student-athletes will compete across the U.S. Figure Skating pathways — from local events through the National Qualifying Series — while also representing MAI in high school competition.
The addition of Mitchell and Johansson marks a significant milestone in MAI’s effort to establish a premier centralized development model for figure skating in New England.
