Masters Academy International Adds Joseph Campbell & Jim Burstein to Complete All-Star Boys Soccer Coaching Staff

Three-time GNAC Coach of the Year Joseph Campbell and longtime Northfield Mount Hermon coach Jim Burstein bring more than 50 years coaching experience to MAI Soccer Program

STOW, Mass. – February 24, 2026 – Masters Academy International (MAI) announced two major additions to finalize its boys soccer coaching staff with the hiring of Joseph Campbell and Jim Burstein. They join Director of Soccer James Proctor and Director of Goalkeeping Colin Cramer to form one of the region’s most experienced prep school coaching staffs.

Joseph Campbell arrives at MAI following two successful seasons as varsity boys soccer coach at Buckingham Browne & Nichols (BB&N) in Cambridge where he led the program to 27 wins and its first playoff berth since 2021. Prior to BB&N, he spent five seasons at Dean College where he was named the 2023 Great Northeast Atlantic Conference (GNAC) Coach of the Year. He previously earned the same honor in 2013 and 2015 during his eight-year tenure at Mount Ida College.

“When I was tasked with building MAI’s boys soccer program, Joe was at the top of my list,” said James Proctor, Director of Boys’ Soccer at MAI. “Having worked with him and observed his coaching for years, I knew he was exactly what we needed—someone with elite-level experience who understands how to develop complete student-athletes. His 21 seasons as a college head coach, three Coach of the Year awards, and success developing an MLS draft pick speak to his technical expertise, but what really sets Joe apart is his ability to build championship cultures while never losing sight of academic and personal development.”

“Teamwork is all about creating a culture where each individual understands their role within the team and values the success of the group,” said Joseph Campbell. “I make sure standards are set high with players supporting and challenging each other on a daily basis. If we create strong teamwork, this will ultimately allow the team to overcome adversity and perform consistently, regardless of the challenge in front of them.”

MAI also welcomes longtime Northfield Mount Hermon coach Jim Burstein. During his tenure leading the NMH boys’ varsity team, Burstein guided the Hoggers to three New England Prep Class A Championships while establishing one of the country’s most respected prep school programs. Numerous players under his leadership have advanced to NCAA Division I programs including the ACC, Big Ten and Ivy League.

“Once I learned what Masters Academy International is building and the vast resources behind supporting its student-athletes, I knew I wanted to be a part of this community,” said Jim Burstein. “The vision, people involved and commitment to developing students both academically and athletically immediately resonated with me.”

“Jim is one of the most respected prep school coaches in the country”, said Proctor. “His track record at Northfield Mount Hermon speaks for itself — championships, college placements and the type of players he develops both on and off the field. Adding him elevates every part of our program.”

With nearly 20 committed players for its inaugural season, MAI’s soccer program — led by James Proctor — now enters its first year with a fully assembled coaching staff.
