The Day Student Experience

Day students at MAI train, study, and compete alongside boarders in every respect that matters. The same coaches. The same Deans. The same lockers. The same dining hall. The same standard. The only difference is where you sleep.

The daily schedule at MAI is built around two blocks – one dedicated to training and one to academics. Every student at MAI is fully immersed in both, with nothing held back for boarders only. Day students arrive, train, study, and go home in time for dinner, carrying the same depth of coaching and mentorship as any student on campus.

An Example Day In The Life

MAI runs an A/B day rotation for academics with one day dedicated to core subjects and the next to interdisciplinary learning. The following section gives you an idea of what a typical day at MAI might look like, but each coach and academic member of staff will adjust this throughout the year to ensure that every block on every day delivers what our students and teams need to ensure progress is maximised.

On-Field Training

First-thing

Technical and tactical work on the field, ice, or court - possession patterns, positional play, and small-sided games built around match intensity. The first half of MAI's dedicated training block, every day.

Strength & Conditioning

Mid-morning

Athletes move to the performance center for strength and conditioning with dedicated S&C staff. The programming is built around where each athlete is in their competitive season and what they need to be at their best.

Video Review

Before lunch

Training might close with video review: breaking down the last match or meet, sharpening decision-making for next time. Athletic development doesn't stop when the whistle blows.

Lunch & Dean Check-In

Lunch

The whole school eats together - day students and boarders, across every sport and grade. Students might also check in with their dean in this time. The Dean tracks academics, athletics, and college recruiting in a single relationship across their entire time at MAI.

Academics: A Day

After lunch A

Core subjects - Math, ELA, World language, and Academic Studio, a dedicated block for project work, tutoring, and independent study.
img

Academics: B Day

After lunch B

A two-hour interdisciplinary STEAM/Humanities module — a signature of the MAI curriculum, fulfilling science, social studies, and art and design requirements through integrated, project-based work — followed by Academic Studio and a Dean's Meeting for the whole school community.

Heading Home

End of day

Students collect their gear for tomorrow's session and head home — training and academics both complete for the day, evenings free for family time.

The Day Student Experience at MAI

By Design, Not By Accident

Every student-athlete at MAI has sacrificed something to pursue what they care about most. Day or boarding, the bonds formed through elite athletic training don’t distinguish between who sleeps in a dorm and who sleeps at home.

An A/B academic rotation built for deeper learning

Core subjects alternate with interdisciplinary STEAM/Humanities work, reducing cognitive load so students go deeper in fewer subjects each day - the same principle that shapes elite athletic training.
img

Dedicated spaces for every student

Day students have personal lockers, gear storage, and access to student commons and study spaces that serve as their on-campus home base throughout the day.
img

A schedule that gives families their evenings back

A full, immersive day of training and academics - and then day students go home for dinner.
img

One Dean, the whole student

Every MAI student is paired with a dedicated dean for their entire MAI career - combining academic guidance, athletic development, and college counseling. Day students and boarders share the same Deans’ program and the same depth of mentorship.

Community meals as daily ritual

Lunch brings the whole school together across sport, grade, and residential status - the most democratic room on campus.

Proximity to home, access to everything

Located in Stow, Massachusetts, within easy reach of Greater Boston families, MAI offers day students a world-class student-athlete environment and the comfort of going home at night.
