Masters Academy International Adds Former Boston University Standout and Pro Player Cason Hohmann as Director of Hockey Player Development

The Former BU Captain, professional player, and coach, brings global experience and a modern development philosophy to MAI’s growing hockey program

STOW, Mass. – April 20, 2026 – Masters Academy International (MAI) has announced Cason Hohmann as Director of Hockey Player Development, further strengthening the academy’s commitment to building one of the premier hockey programs in the country.

Hohmann brings a dynamic and accomplished hockey background as a Division I student-athlete, professional player, coach and player-agent. In his role, he will lead skill development, oversee player progression, and integrate advanced video analysis to elevate performance across all of MAI’s hockey teams.

A standout at Boston University Men’s Ice Hockey, Hohmann served as assistant captain during his senior season, helping lead the Terriers to a Hockey East title and the 2015 NCAA National Championship game.

Following BU, Hohmann signed a two-way AHL/NHL contract with the Rochester Americans and Buffalo Sabres, launching a seven-year professional career that spanned North America and Europe. Internationally, he competed in Slovakia’s top league, earning two championship titles. He also played professionally in Switzerland and Germany.

After retiring from professional play, Hohmann transitioned into coaching and player development, serving as Head Coach at Buckingham Browne & Nichols (BB&N) and founding Commonwealth Hockey Group, where he advises and represents aspiring hockey players navigating high school and collegiate pathways.

“Cason brings a rare blend of high-level playing experience, coaching leadership, and a deep understanding of player development,” said Peter Masters, Co-Founder of Masters Academy International. “He understands what it takes to compete—and succeed—at every level of the game, and he shares our vision of building a world-class hockey program rooted in both performance and personal growth.”

For Hohmann, the opportunity goes beyond competition—it’s about shaping the next generation of athletes:

“To be part of a culture that prioritizes both high-level development and personal growth is incredibly meaningful to me,” said Hohmann. “It’s about building complete athletes on the ice, in the classroom and in life.”

The former Boston University Captain played under U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame coach Jack Parker, a three-time national champion and one of college hockey’s most accomplished coaches—an experience that continues to influence his coaching philosophy today.

“The best coach I’ve ever had the pleasure to play for was Jack Parker”, added Hohmann. “He used trust as his motivator with his players and that has always resonated with me.”

Originally from Cleburne, Texas, Hohmann began his hockey journey after being inspired by the Dallas Stars’ 1999 Stanley Cup win. He went on to play junior hockey in the USHL after being drafted second overall by the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, before continuing his career at Boston University.

Today, he resides in Newton, Massachusetts, with his wife Danielle and their daughter Harper.
