Masters Academy International Names Konstantin Kostin Figure Skating Coach

1992 Olympian and ISU Technical Specialist who served on 2018 Olympic judging panel brings world-class expertise to groundbreaking academy

STOW, MA. – Masters Academy International (MAI) today announced Konstantin Kostin as Figure Skating Coach, bringing Olympic-level competitive experience and elite technical expertise to the academy’s comprehensive figure skating program. Kostin, a 1992 Olympian and five-time World Championships competitor who currently serves as an International Skating Union Technical Specialist, will join the coaching staff when the academy opens in September 2026.

Wendy Enzmann, Director of Figure Skating at MAI, shared her excitement: “Having Konstantin join our program is truly exceptional. His rare blend of Olympic‑level competitive experience and his work as an ISU Technical Specialist gives him a depth of expertise that few coaches worldwide can match. He understands the sport from every angle—both as an elite athlete known for technical mastery and creative performance, and as a respected technical specialist who has served at major international events, including the Olympic Winter Games. Our students will benefit immensely from learning from someone who truly knows what it takes to compete and succeed at the highest levels.”

Born in the USSR, Kostin began skating at age 3 and trained under renowned coaches in Riga, Latvia, St. Petersburg, and Moscow. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1993, he moved to the United States and continued training with legendary coaches Evy and Mary Scotvold on Cape Cod. As a competitor, he achieved remarkable success as a two-time Latvian National Champion, 1992 World Junior Championships Silver Medalist, and was named USSR “Master of Sports.”

“Communication is a huge component of teamwork in the athletic setting,” said Kostin. “Athletic success is predicated on having an open line of communication between the coach and athlete as well as the many other individuals involved in the training process. Teamwork is having the ability to celebrate meaningful progress and success, provide support through challenges, and to develop strategies through collaboration.”

Since beginning his full-time coaching career in 2001, Kostin has developed multiple training programs across the country, coaching athletes from beginner to highly competitive levels, including medalists at Regional, Sectional, National, and International competitions. His area of expertise focuses on jump technique and overall technical skating skills, with significant emphasis on ensuring proper skill mastery and execution.

“Success can be found in every win and every loss,” Kostin explained. “Success is winning and losing with grace and dignity. Success is finding solutions to challenges, working through defeat, and digging deep for the grit to stay in the game even when the odds seem to be against you.”

As an ISU Technical Specialist, Kostin has served on technical panels for the 2018 Olympics, 2016 and 2025 World Figure Skating Championships, European Championships, 2025 Grand Prix Final Championships, and multiple Grand Prix and Junior Grand Prix events. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, specializing in child psychology and education, from the Moscow Sociological Institute.
