Masters Academy International Names Pat Moriarty Head Coach of Varsity Baseball
Three-decade coaching veteran who captured 2024 CNESPBL Championship brings 276 career wins and proven college placement success to groundbreaking academy
STOW, MA. – Masters Academy International (MAI) today announced Pat Moriarty as Head Coach of Varsity Baseball, bringing over 30 years of championship-caliber coaching and a track record of placing 140+ players in college programs to the academy’s comprehensive baseball program. Moriarty, who led Deerfield Academy to the 2024 CNESPBL Championship while ranking #1 in New England, will lead the varsity program alongside Director of Baseball Operations Rich Gilbride when the academy opens in September 2026.
“After an extensive search which involved interviewing two to three of the top prep school head coaches in New England, we determined Coach Moriarty has proven himself to be the only choice to lead our student-athletes,” said Rich Gilbride, Director of Baseball Operations at MAI. “His combination of championship success, player development expertise, and commitment to character-based coaching makes him the ideal leader for our varsity program. His recent dominance at Deerfield—31-7 over two years while reaching three championship games in four years—demonstrates the winning culture he’ll bring to MAI. Together, we’ll create a program that develops not just elite baseball players, but outstanding young men prepared for success at the next level and beyond.”
Currently serving as Head Varsity Baseball Coach at Deerfield Academy, Moriarty has built one of New England’s premier prep programs, ranking in the top five regionally in three of the last five seasons. His 276 career varsity wins include Division I Western Massachusetts championships, Super 8 appearances, and consistent postseason success. He was inducted into the Cathedral High School Athletic Hall of Fame and received the Sportsmanship Award from the Umpires Association.
“Teamwork is believing in something bigger than yourself—putting team success ahead of individual goals,” said Moriarty. “The program’s mission extends beyond the playing field, emphasizing the growth of the student-athlete as a whole person including citizenship and service on our campus and in our community.”
Moriarty’s college placement success speaks volumes: 53 players placed in seven years at Deerfield alone, including recent commits to Cornell, Richmond, Tufts, Bowdoin, Bates, and Bentley. His overall career includes over 140 student-athletes advancing to Division I, II, and III programs, with several players reaching professional baseball, including Chris Capuano, Nick Gorneault, Scott Barnes, and Frank Crinella.
“Fast-paced, skill-driven, intense workouts designed to challenge players to find game speed in practice—that’s what our training looks like,” Moriarty explained. “Practice is permanent, not perfect. The more uncomfortable players are willing to get every day in practice, the more progress they will make.”
The baseball program at MAI will feature a spring training trip to Florida, 20-25 fall games, and year-round training in state-of-the-art facilities including indoor batting cages, Trackman technology, pitching mounds, and a full indoor diamond. The addition of lights on MAI’s fields will enable night games in the Boston market, facilitating on-site college recruiting.
“When you join our family, you are committing to a culture of hard work and mental toughness that will prepare you for the challenges of college baseball and beyond,” Moriarty noted. “We want to make good people and citizens, not just good players. Our student-athletes need to be prepared for a rapidly changing world by being responsible leaders.”
